The video above is an online ad from Josh Freese. Josh is a drummer. You might not know the name but you’ve heard his work with Nine Inch Nails, Guns N Roses, A Perfect Circle, and dozens of other bands. He’s got a new album coming out in March and to help promote it he posted a very funny, multi-tiered price menu on his site. The price points run from $7 to $75,000 and Josh swears every offer is serious.
Check out the full menu here – “Since 1972″ Price Menu.
His wackiness, irreverence, charm, and honesty have worked. More than he ever expected. Since posting it a few days ago, stories have spread both online and offline about the menu and the offers. It’s gone viral! And it’s gotten people talking about him and the new album.
Will it sell his album? Who knows? But it has endeared him to millions of people who would have never heard of him or known that he had a new album out. And just maybe they’ll check out his music, like it, and buy it. Not much more you can really ask for with a lo-fi marketing campaign.
Such a simple idea. With a cost of almost nothing. Genius.
Now I just need to scratch together $10,000 so I can go to Disneyland with Josh, eat at Roscoe’s with him, and drive away in his Volvo station wagon. Let’s see Radiohead top that offer.
